Norway has approved a more than $7 billion aid program for Ukraine.
This was reported on the Government of Norway website.
The Norwegian Parliament has approved a multi-year support program for Ukraine worth NOK 75 billion.
In 2023, NOK 7.5 billion will be used for humanitarian assistance, the other NOK 7.5 billion — for military support to Ukraine.
“We condemn Russia’s war in Ukraine together and support the legitimate struggle of the Ukrainian people,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
According to the Norwegian Prime Minister, at the current stage of the war, support for weapons will be crucial for Ukraine to regain control of its territory.
Therefore, in 2023, half of the aid provided will be in the form of military support.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was present by video link at the meeting of the Norwegian parliament when they presented the support program.
“The support program that Norway approves for our state and that sets a precedent for guaranteed sustained support for the fight for freedom is designed for five years,” Zelensky said.
NOK 75 billion will be granted over the five-year period 2023-2027, i.e. NOK 15 billion annually.
The program also includes an additional one-year allowance in 2023 of NOK 5 million to developing countries affected by the global impact of the war.
Previously, it was reported that Norway would transfer to Ukraine eight Leopard 2А4NO main battle tanks and up to four support vehicles.
