The Ukrainian Defense Forces are developing a new 155-mm trailed howitzer Marta with a barrel length of 39 caliber.

Colonel Andriy Zhuravlev, deputy chief of staff of the Rocket Forces and Artillery Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said this in an interview with RBC Ukraine.

According to him, the system is currently being tested.

The 39-caliber barrel will allow the gun to be mounted on a lighter carriage and transported by smaller vehicles, but this design has a shorter range.

The Bohdana self-propelled artillery system and the Bohdana-BG trailed howitzer are equipped with 52-caliber barrels.

It was previously reported that the Bohdana self-propelled artillery system is also planned to be armed with a new short barrel of 39 caliber.

It is likely that the barrels of the lighter Bohdana and Marta will be unified to reduce the cost of maintenance and repair.
