The US will provide Ukraine with reconnaissance drones and anti-radar missiles as part of a new military aid package.
The Pentagon announced new military assistance.
On August 19, the White House reported that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, signed a decree allocating new military aid to Ukraine with additional weapons and military equipment.
Biden authorizes additional aid to Ukraine, using his presidential authority to transfer surplus weapons from US stockpiles.
This authorization is the Biden Administration’s nineteenth drawdown of equipment from DoD inventories for Ukraine since August 2021.
The capabilities in this package include:
Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
16 105mm Howitzers and 36,000 105mm artillery rounds;
15 Scan Eagle Unmanned Aerial Systems;
40 MaxxPro Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles with mine rollers;
Additional High-speed Anti-radiation missiles;
50 Armored High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV);
1,500 Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
1,000 Javelin anti-armor systems;
2,000 anti-armor rounds;
Mine clearing equipment and systems;
Demolition munitions;
Tactical secure communications systems;
Night vision devices, thermal imagery systems, optics, and laser rangefinders.
In total, the United States has committed approximately $10.6 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration.
Since 2014, the United States has committed more than $12.6 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
The previous package of U.S. military assistance, valued at up to $1 billion to meet the critical needs of Ukraine, included additional ammunition for the M142 HIMARS rocket systems (undisclosed quantity). To date, Ukraine has received 16 launchers.
The artillerymen of Ukraine will receive 75,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition, 20 120mm mortar systems, and 20,000 rounds of 120mm mortar ammunition.
In addition, Ukraine will receive 50 armoured medical treatment vehicles for the treatment and evacuation of the wounded. As previously reported, the USA decided to transfer 200 units of M113 from its reserves.
