On July 9, the Russian military fired with cluster ammunition at one of the Kryvyi Rih city districts.
According to the press service of the Dnipropetrovsk Region Prosecutor’s Office, a 41-year-old woman died as a result of the shelling.
A 20-year-old athlete and her father, who were training outside, received numerous fragmentation injuries and were hospitalized.
The young woman died in the intensive care unit as her injuries were incompatible with life.
The shelling damaged several multi-storey buildings, a school, a kindergarten, and multiple cars of local residents.
There are no military facilities in the area, the Prosecutor’s Office noted.
Head of the Military Administration of Kryvyi Rih Oleksandr Vilkul said that the strikes came from an area between Novoraisk and Kostyrka villages in the occupied part of the Kherson Region.
Several shrapnel-high-explosive 9N235 cluster bomblets were found in the shelling area. Those are designed to destroy manforce.
Each submunition has six spring-loaded petals that open after bomblets are ejected from the container and face the contact detonator downwards. After the explosion it ejects prepared shrapnel, cut from steel wire.
A Russian 9B706.01 control module for a 300mm guided artillery rocket was also found at the spot.
Those control modules are designed for guided 9К515 projectiles of the Tornado-S rocket system.
The 9B706.01 control module along with the guided projectiles was publicly demonstrated in Russia on July 24, 2020.
