A new “coalition of capabilities” has been established to supply Ukraine with electronic warfare (EW) equipment and expertise, the German Federal Ministry of Defence stated on Thursday.
Announced during the latest Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, known as the “Ramstein” format, the initiative brings together Germany and 10 other countries. It becomes the ninth such capability coalition formed to support Kyiv.
The EW Сoalition will focus on three core areas:
“The knowledge gained will also contribute to enhancing the Bundeswehr’s own capabilities,” the ministry emphasized in a statement.
German officials emphasized that the EW capabilities were critical for protecting both military and civilian infrastructure.
“Control of the electromagnetic spectrum is crucial for the effective conduct of combat operations in modern conditions. This especially applies to the use and protection of drones,” the German military stated in a press release.
A regular Ramstein-format meeting is taking place in Brussels on April 11.
The agenda includes air defense, weapons deliveries, and defense-industrial cooperation topics.
In particular, it is already known that during today’s meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine, additional aid packages were announced, while the total value of committed support to Ukraine discussed at the meeting exceeded €21 billion ($23.85 billion).
Germany also pledged to deliver additional 30 missiles for its Patriot air defense systems. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed plans to transfer four more IRIS-T systems, along with their associated missiles.
