The United States has prepared another batch of M777 howitzers for Ukraine.
The United States Department of Defense reports about this.
The U.S. military loaded M777 155-mm howitzers for Ukraine onto a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft.
The Globemaster III is an American large military transport aircraft developed by McDonnell Douglas company.
American howitzers will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to confront the Russian military.
“US Marines and U.S. air force personnel load M777 155-mm howitzers bound for Ukraine,” the US Department of Defense said in the statement.
155-mm M777 howitzers are part of a new package of military aid to Ukraine.
Besides that, it includes shells, artillery tractors and other equipment.
The 155 mm caliber is considered NATO-standard, because in the Soviet Union, and then in Russia and Ukraine, 152-mm shells were used, and such shells are used now to strike blows on both sides.
Therefore, the aid package from the United States includes 144 thousands of 155-mm ammunition, as well as tractors for transporting howitzers.
“This will be enough to provide enough artillery for five Ukrainian battalions for potential use in the Donbas,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
Effective range of the M777 is 24 km. The same systems can use M982 Excalibur extended range guided artillery shells, which increases the range of accurate shots of M777 up to 40 km.
