The new US assistance package for Ukraine includes 105-mm artillery ammunition.
The Pentagon reported about this.
High-mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS) will also be delivered.
The United States announced another $450 million drawdown for Ukraine to meet the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ critical arms needs in the face of the full-scale Russian invasion.
The package now includes four additional HIMARS systems. Provision of 105-mm L119 towed howitzers was announced in May.
The United States also will provide Ukraine with 36,000 rounds of 105 mm ammunition, 18 tactical vehicles to tow 155 mm artillery, 1,200 grenade launchers, 2,000 machine guns, 18 coastal and riverine patrol boats, spare parts, and other equipment.
This assistance is provided through the presidential drawdown of DOD stocks. It is the 13th time the head of the White House uses this format of sending defense aid to Ukraine.
“The United States has now committed approximately $6.8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden Administration, including approximately $6.1 billion since the beginning of Russia’s unprovoked invasion on February 24,” Acting Pentagon Press Secretary Todd Breasseale said.
Recently, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov announced that the first HIMARS have arrived in Ukraine.
On June 1, the United States approved a new package of military assistance to Ukraine, which included HIMARS systems and ammunition for them. That aid package was around $700 million.
The Pentagon later stated that providing Ukraine with several systems is just a starting point.
The United States might double the number of HIMARS systems shipped over to Ukraine. This would mean the supply of 4 more weapons systems.
