The Netherlands is considering the possibility of deploying the frigate Evertsen to a defense mission in the eastern Mediterranean.

This was announced by Defense Minister Dylan Yesilgoz-Zegerius and Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen in the House of Representatives, according to European Pravda.

The request to support the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle came from France on March 3. The Dutch frigate Evertsen is expected to escort the French flagship in the eastern Mediterranean, where Cyprus is also located.

The ships already have experience working together during recent exercises in the Baltic Sea. There, they practiced preparing for combat operations as part of a large flotilla.

Although the Evertsen has already set sail for the Mediterranean Sea with the French group, the decision has not yet been made.

Recall that Spain will send its frigate Cristobal Colon to the eastern Mediterranean to protect Cyprus from possible air attacks from Iran.

Cyprus is an EU country but not a member of NATO. There is a British airbase on the territory of the state.
