Netflix co-founder and chairman Reed Hastings has joined the UA1 investment fund, which supports Ukraine’s defense industry.
Oleksandr Kamyshin, an advisor to the President of Ukraine on strategic development, shared the news in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, as reported by InVenture.
The fund also confirmed that Hastings is one of the key partners in its latest funding round.
Reed Hastings, known for his investments in innovation and education, is now directing resources toward strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities through high-tech development.
The UA1 fund is currently working to complete its first major funding round, which is expected to reach $50 million by the end of April 2026. Most participants in the project are experienced American venture investors and representatives of Silicon Valley, who see significant growth potential in Ukraine’s security sector.
The fund’s main goal is to identify and finance technologies that can be rapidly deployed on the battlefield to gain a technological edge. Priority investment areas include artificial intelligence, electronic warfare systems, drones, robotic systems, and cybersecurity solutions.
UA1 was founded by William McNulty, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who began supporting Ukraine at the start of the full-scale invasion. His journey in the defense tech sector started with investments in 2024, which later evolved into a fully developed fund structure.
