Negotiations on transferring the Polish MiG-29 fighter jets to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are ongoing.
Andriy Deshchytsia, Ambassador of Ukraine to Warsaw, claimed this in an interview with the BBC Ukraine.
This issue has not been removed from the agenda of Ukrainian diplomats.
Answering a follow-up question on the MiG-29 transfer, Deshchytsia replied:
“Negotiations are ongoing, we continue discussing how and when they could be used.”
The Ambassador of Ukraine in Warsaw believes in a positive decision, as was the case with the Polish tanks.
“The question of handing over specifically combat aircraft is on the agenda, and we will eventually solve it. At first, it was hard to believe that Poland could hand over the tanks. However, this happened: first a small batch, then a large one, later even more, and soon several hundred tanks left Poland for Ukraine,” Deshchytsia said.
According to him, the negotiations are taking a long time, since not only Ukraine and Poland, but also the United States and NATO are involved in them.
“It turns out that within NATO, this is not an easy decision to make. It must be consolidated, and consensual. And finding consensus among all NATO countries is not easy. But we need to keep working on it,” Ambassador said.
Deshchytsia stressed that Poland has provided Ukraine with a large number of military equipment.
The total amount of aid is accounting for up to $4 billion, and half of this aid was offered in the form of military equipment and supplies. The Ambassador also confirmed the transfer of 25,000 tons of fuel from Poland.
Recently it was announced that Poland has handed over to Ukraine almost all the spare parts and ammunition for the MiG-29 fighter jets.
