In the coming months, the NATO will transport multipurpose Mi-17 helicopters to Odesa from Mexico.
This was reported by Militarnyi with reference to the document of the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).
Now, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency is looking for a contractor to organize the transportation of three helicopters Ми-17 from Mexico to Ukraine.
According to the terms of reference, three aircraft must be delivered from the city of Veracruz, Mexico, to Odesa by sea.
The cargo will be ready no earlier than February 7. Departure from Veracruz should take place two weeks after receiving the cargo.
The cargo should be in Odesa for a maximum of 50 days after departure from Veracruz.
NATO does not say for what purpose the aircraft will be delivered from Mexico to Ukraine.
It is likely that helicopters will be delivered to Ukraine to repair.
Mexico operates Russian-made helicopters. At various times Mi-2, Мi-8Т, Мi-17, Мi-17-1V, Ми-17-V5, Мi-26 and combat Мi-24P were purchased.
About 50 helicopters Мi-8 and Мi-17 were delivered to Mexico from Russia. In the city of Veracruz there is a center that serves them, and there is a center where Mexican pilots receive the necessary qualifications. As of 2016, Mexico owns two Мi-8Т helicopters, 19 Мi-17, 19 Мi-17-1V, and 4 Мi-17-V5.
In 2021, a Мi-17 helicopter belonging to Navy fell and damaged in Mexico.
