The Foreign Minister of Estonia has stated that NATO is ready to respond harshly in the event of Russian aggression against the Baltic states.
He made these comments in an interview with The Telegraph.
According to the Foreign Minister, a possible attack by Russia would not be limited to a local conflict. The Alliance is considering scenarios for strikes on Russian territory.
This involves potential air strikes ‘deep inside Russia.’ This approach is positioned as an element of deterrence.
The minister stressed that the Baltic states have their own defense plans. They do not involve passively waiting for help.
Tallinn considers scenarios of rapid occupation of the region to be outdated. These assessments are based on growth in defense spending.
Estonia and its neighbors have declared investments of up to 5% of GDP. The emphasis is on strengthening combat capabilities.
The statements were made in the context of discussions in NATO defense circles. They concern the risks of potential escalation after the war in Ukraine.
Previously, a series of military simulations modeled rapid offensive actions by the Russian Federation. In some scenarios, Russia achieved tactical successes.
Baltic officials have criticized such models. They called such assessments politicized and unrealistic.
Official Tallinn insists on the concept of immediate repulsion. It involves deterring the aggressor from the very first hours of the conflict.
We would like to remind you that recently, Militarnyi mentioned joint defense procurement and rearmament strategies of the Baltic states.
