NATO already has contracts worth €2.4 billion for the production of key munitions.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced framework contracts for the production of ammunition, both for Ukraine and to replenish the stockpiles of member states.
Stoltenberg reminded that last year NATO realized the need to replenish its ammunition stockpiles.
In this regard, he mentioned a meeting in June with representatives of the defense industry.
“There is no defense without industry. I can now confirm that NATO has framework contracts for the production of major ammunition worth €2.4 billion. Of these, €1 billion are already signed contracts. It regards 155 mm artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and ammunition for main battle tanks,” Stoltenberg said.
According to him, the Defense Industries Forum to be held tomorrow in Kyiv could be an additional opportunity to increase production.
He also mentioned the industrial forum in Stockholm next week, which will also be an additional opportunity.
“We need firm contracts. Only then will investments be made and production will be established,” Stoltenberg emphasized.
At a joint briefing with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, Stoltenberg emphasized that Ukraine’s future is in NATO.
Stoltenberg emphasized that support for Ukraine in the international arena continues to grow, while support for Russia’s actions is declining.
According to him, Ukrainians are fighting for their families and future, while Moscow is fighting for imperial illusions.
“After the Vilnius Summit in July, we all agreed that Ukraine would join NATO. And three historic decisions were taken to make this a reality,” the Alliance Secretary General said.
