The servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have shot down a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle of the Leer electronic warfare system.
The Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces informed about this.
A paratrooper of the 79th Air Assault Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces shot down Russian equipment in the Ukrainian sky.
Such unmanned aerial vehicles are designed to jam GSM connections.
“A serviceman of the reconnaissance unit of the 79th Air Assault Brigade used small arms to shoot down an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Leer electronic warfare system, which is designed to jam GSM connection,” the statement said.
The Russian RB-341V Leer electronic warfare system consists of three UAVs “Orlan-10” and a control point based on a truck KamAZ-5350.
The main task of the system’s drones is to jam 3G and 4G cellular base stations.
For this purpose, special devices – “silencers” are installed on board the “Orlan-10” drones, as well as disposable jammers that can be dropped to the ground.
After suppression, the Leer-3 UAVs substitute the base stations, becoming virtual cellular stations.
The electronic warfare system gains control of mobile devices connected to the captured mobile base station, including intercepting calls and traffic.
The operator of the system can send messages, call users or display images in different browsers on mobile devices of subscribers.
Orlan-10 is a medium-range, multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle, it is used at distances of up to 120 km from the control point. In autonomous mode, it can fly a distance of 600 km. Time in the air – up to 18 hours, flight speed – 90-150 km per hour. Its weight is 14 kg and it is launched from a special catapult.
