During the morning attack on Ukraine, one of the Russian missiles flew into Ukraine through Moldova and Romania.
Monitor reported this.
The Russian cruise missile flew about 140 kilometers in the airspace of Moldova and Romania and reached its final trajectory in the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine.
It traveled from the Yampil district in the Vinnytsia region to the Daraban area in Botoșani county, Romania.
So far, the Ministry of Defense and the NATO contingent in Romania have not officially commented. In addition, it is unknown whether the missile was detected by Romanian and NATO air defense systems when it crossed the border with Romania.
It should be noted that this is not the first time that a Russian cruise missile has flown over the territory of an Alliance member state. For example, in February 2023, it was reported that a Russian missile crossed the Romanian state border during a missile attack on Ukraine.
The country’s Ministry of Defense representatives did not confirm this in an official statement. However, they said that the country’s Air Force’s air surveillance system detected an air target launched from a Russian Federation ship in the Black Sea near the Crimean peninsula on February 10.
However, it is likely that the cruise missile, which first crossed the airspace of Ukraine and Moldova and then re-entered Ukrainian airspace, never crossed Romanian airspace.
In addition to cruise missiles, Shahed-type kamikaze drones have been spotted flying over Romania, some of which were lost there in addition to transit flights.
For example, in July 2024, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu reported that the wreckage of Shahed-type attack drones that Russia used to attack the Odesa region on the night of July 25 had been found.
On the same day, the media reported that wreckage was found near the village of Plauru, which probably belonged to Russian Shahed/Geran attack drones. The military continues to inspect the area.
Also, in September 2024, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported on the search for new remnants of Russian kamikaze drones due to the renewed increase in attacks on the border areas of Ukraine, as a result of which some drones fell into Romania.
