Moldova is ready to join the international Coalition of the Willing created to support Ukraine.
President Maia Sandu announced this after a meeting of the National Security Council, according to NewsMaker.
Moldova could contribute by sending its demining specialists to help clear Ukrainian territory after the war.
“We have expressed our readiness to take part in this ‘coalition of the willing.’ We are already supporting Ukraine and training demining specialists. This is the kind of contribution we can offer if coalition members decide to accept Moldova,” Sandu stated.
She added that such participation would not violate Moldova’s constitutional neutrality.
Maia Sandu, President of Moldova, added that the country seeks to join international efforts to support Ukraine.
“It is important for us to be part of these efforts as well. As I have already said, our specialists can provide training and take part in demining operations once the war in Ukraine ends,” she added.
The President also clarified that Moldova’s request still needs to be considered by the other member countries of the “coalition of the willing.”
More than 30 coalition member states, following a meeting on February 24, confirmed their role in providing multi-level security guarantees for Ukraine with the support of the United States.
On January 6, Ukraine, France, and the United Kingdom signed a declaration of intent regarding the future deployment of multinational forces on Ukrainian territory after the end of hostilities with Russia.
This refers to the deployment of forces at a significant distance from the line of contact to stabilize the situation during the post-ceasefire period.
A separate mechanism is also envisaged to monitor compliance with the ceasefire, led by the United States and involving European partners.
