The Ministry of Defense of Moldova has announced military training for five days.

Recently, such events have been held annually in several stages.

Usually, they roughly coincide with the “gatherings” in the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic – a separatist entity on the left bank of the Dniester, controlled by the pro-Russian government, which formally calls itself independent.

For example, last year, in the so-called PMR, the training started on March 1 and lasted 3 months. They were conducted under the leadership of the Russian contingent.

In the Moldovan government-controlled part of the country, they were held three times:

• in March
• in May
• in June

The exercises lasted five days each. The primary purpose of the training is to test the skills of Moldovan reservists.

No information about this year’s military training in the so-called PMR could be found, although the so-called president signed a decree on its holding in 2025 on November 20, 2024:

According to “official” information, 2060 people were to be drafted:

• 52 reserve officers
• 2008 reserve soldiers and sergeants

Since the previous training camp, several socio-political events have taken place in Moldova that could have influenced the cancellation or suspension of the training camp in the so-called PMR.

Since the beginning of the year, the PMR and the Moldovan government have been engaged in difficult negotiations on gas supplies after Russia stopped transporting gas through Ukraine. The unrecognized “republic” even found itself without gas for a while, and the only way out was to negotiate with the only legitimate government in the country.

Another such event was the detention of Evgenia Gutsul, head of Gagauzia, another entity in Moldova, who was arrested at the Chisinau airport.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Evgenia Gutsul would not be included in the government, arguing that she was working for a criminal group and making statements against her own country.
