The United States is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine.
Reuters reported this with reference to US officials.
The allocation of new $200 million aid should be announced already on Tuesday, August 8.
US President Joe Biden’s Administration starts to dole out $6.2 billion discovered after a Pentagon accounting error over-valued billions of Ukraine aid.
In fiscal year 2022, the error in calculating military aid reached $2.6 billion, and in the current fiscal year, it reached $3.6 billion.
The mistake occurred because the cost of new weapons was considered in the assessment, but Ukraine received stocks that were stored in warehouses, which should have been assessed at their residual value minus depreciation.
The discovered funds will be used to fund additional batches of arms for Ukraine from the US stocks through $25.5 billion worth of Presidential Drawdown Authority already approved by Congress and, accordingly, will not require additional approval by government officials.
Washington is currently working on a supplemental budget request to continue to aid Kyiv.
Tuesday’s expected announcement of a $200 million military aid package is expected to comprise mine clearing equipment, TOW and AT4 anti-tank weapons, and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
Missiles for the Patriot air defense system and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets and other equipment should also be transferred.
As previously reported, the United States officially approved the transfer of the first batch of Abrams tanks to Ukraine. Army Acquisition Chief Doug Bush announced this on Monday, August 7.
According to a Pentagon official, the first Abrams tanks are ready to be sent to Ukraine. The tanks are on track to arrive in Ukraine by early fall.
