Eduard Heger, Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, said that Slovakia is “in the game” regarding the transfer of weapons to Ukraine. In particular, it would cover the MiG-29 fighters and tanks.

He spoke about this on the air on Czech television together with Peter Fiala, Czech Republic Prime Minister.

The leaders of both countries announced that starting in September, Czech Republic will help its neighbor to protect its airspace until Slovakia receives the ordered F-16 aircraft. The new fighters are to replace the MiG-29. Such cooperation between countries can last for about a year.

Regarding the transfer of Ukrainian equipment, Eduard Heger said he would not disclose the terms or the details.

“I donʼt want to talk about it in detail because Ukraine also asked us not to go into details,” he said.

Both Heger and Fiala noted that everyone was surprised by how effectively and for how long Ukraine could defend itself against the invasion of Russia, whose army should have been much stronger.

“We have all reasons to believe that Ukraine will win this war,” Slovakia’s Prime Minister said.

Fiala emphasized the need to transfer weapons to Ukraine in order to speed up aid.

“They must have weapons so that they can fight for their independence, our security and our freedom. They are fighting for us,” he added.

The Prime Minister of the Czech Republic also stated that Czech Republic is ready to take part in the training of the Ukrainian servicemen, in case of necessity.

As previously reported, Slovakia’s airspace will be guarded by Poland and the Czech Republic.

Slovakia systematically supports Ukraine with weapons. The country also helps to repair and modernize Ukrainian equipment.

In particular, Slovakia transferred S-300 air defense systems, Zuzana self-propelled howitzers and armored vehicles to Ukraine.

In mid-June, Slovakia handed Ukraine four Mi-17 and one Mi-2 multi-purpose transport helicopters, as well as ammunition for the 122-mm Grad multiple rocket launchers.
