A Russian Mi-28 crashed in a forest near the village of Klenki, Zhizdrinsky district, Kaluga region.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that the helicopter was on a scheduled flight. The preliminary cause of the crash is a technical malfunction.
As a result of the incident, the crew of two people died. It is noted that there was no damage on the ground.
According to the Mash Telegram channel, a Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter was “hunting” for Ukrainian drones in Russian airspace. It was returning from a combat mission on the border with the Bryansk region to its deployment point.
According to one version, a fire broke out in the cockpit during the flight due to an engine malfunction.
Rescuers, a task force and a commission of the Russian Aerospace Forces are currently working at the scene.
On Thursday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian air defense forces had allegedly shot down four drones over Kursk and three over the Belgorod region. It is likely that the crashed Mi-28 helicopter was used to intercept these drones.
Russians have recently been actively using helicopters of this type to intercept Ukrainian attack drones.
On the night of July 5, a Russian Mi-28 attack helicopter made an emergency landing in the Rostov region after colliding with a drone. The high temperature of the exhaust gases caused the grass around the helicopter to burn. The crew abandoned the vehicle and was evacuated.
