The German newspaper Bild, citing a secret document marked “for official use”, claims that Germany has Marder IFVs that could be handed over to Ukraine.
However, the Scholz government is blocking this decision from being made.
According to the publication, the German Ministry of Defense has 32 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, which are “no longer used” and “could be repaired if necessary.”
However, the Government states that it cannot transfer this equipment because all of it is in the Bundeswehr’s use.
It is also noted that the Federal Security Council is blocking the transfer of 100 Marder IFVs that Rheinmetall is ready to hand over.
The publication claims that the first batch of 100 IFVs could be repaired “within six weeks”.
“This means that if the Federal Government would have approved the declaration of intent made by Rheinmetall and the Ukrainian government back in March, the first Marders could already be in Ukraine and assist in defending against the Russian military,” the publication said.
