The first newest Parrot Anafi UKR quadcopters have been delivered to the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense said that the Parrot Anafi UKR drones had originally been designed for the Ukrainian forces.
In June, Lithuania signed a contract with UAB Deftools to purchase Parrot Anafi UKR quadcopters from the French manufacturer.
The contract is worth €2.5 million.
The drones are being purchased as a matter of urgency to enhance the UAVs’ capabilities and integrate them into the Lithuanian Armed Forces as soon as possible.
“Step by step, the Lithuanian Armed Forces are expanding their capabilities in the use of various types of drones. This will not only allow us to train more drone operators, but also enhance our operational capabilities,” said the Minister of Defense of Lithuania, Laurynas Kasčiūnas.
These drones are the latest Parrot model and are designed to operate in difficult electronic warfare conditions.
The first operators for these drones will be trained in Lithuania in the near future.
The manufacturer does not disclose exact characteristics of the new Parrot Anafi UKR drones. It is known that the previous Parrot Anafi USA model has a stabilized thermal imaging system with a 32x zoom.
The 32x zoom is based on two 21-megapixel cameras, allowing operators to see details clearly up to 5km away.
The zoomed-in image is merged (overlaid) with images from the FLIP camera installed at the Anafi USA. This allows operators to detect hot spots with the thermal camera while the visual camera allows them to see people and other important details up to 2 km away.
As a reminder, in September, the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania opened the Center of Competence for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
