The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that it remains open to the possibility of sending peacekeepers to support operations in Ukraine.

Kęstutis Budrys made this statement, as reported by Delfi.

He emphasized that Lithuania could participate in a peacekeeping operation, but this would depend on the stance of the major powers regarding the initiative.

“Lithuania was among the first to voice its position and has remained steadfast, keeping all options on the table. We have thoroughly considered every possibility and will continue to do so, whether before or after peace is achieved,” Kęstutis Budrys stated on LRT radio on Monday.

He highlighted that the scale of the peacekeeping force under discussion by European countries remains uncertain, as there is yet to be an approved figure for the number of troops required for the operation.

Furthermore, he mentioned that, alongside infantry, aviation units would be deployed to maintain peace, with naval forces also playing a crucial role in providing protection and deterrence.

“The operation, as envisioned, will be wide-ranging, encompassing not only ground forces but also air and maritime units to ensure comprehensive security. Different forms of participation will be considered,” he explained.

He also reiterated that Lithuania would not undertake this operation independently, stressing that the involvement of the United States and other key nations taking a leading role in supporting the peacekeeping mission would be crucial in shaping the decision.

As of March 3, 2025, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is considering all possible options for maintaining peace in Ukraine, including the involvement of the Canadian military.

Among the countries that have officially supported the idea of sending peacekeepers are Switzerland, Italy, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Lithuania.

Militarnyi previously reported that Italy has expressed its readiness to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine as part of efforts to settle the conflict.

In a similar move, the British government recently announced its willingness to deploy peacekeepers to Ukraine to help implement any peace agreement.
