Lithuania is considering launching the production of maritime drones under the 1+1 project – one for itself and one for Ukraine. The country is interested in Magura drones.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė shared this with Militarnyi.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense is interested in Ukrainian surface attack drones, missile drones, and other weapons.

“Magura, in my opinion, is an excellent military product,” Dovilė Šakalienė said.

To this end, Lithuania is considering launching joint production of certain types of weapons in Lithuania, using the 1+1 principle.

According to this principle, Lithuania will pay for the production and transfer half of the manufactured weapons to Ukraine.

“That is, we pay for the production of two weapons, one of which is transferred to Ukraine and the other remains in Lithuania, but we pay for both,” the Minister explained.

Lithuania has recently allocated €20 million to finance certain projects in the Ukrainian defense industry.

“And we believe that cooperation in certain areas related to missile drones, maritime drones, and other technologies is really very promising,” Šakalienė noted.

Magura drones

Just a few years ago, it was hard to imagine that small unmanned vehicles would be able to withstand large warships. But the war in Ukraine proved it: size does not always matter.

Ukrainian Magura maritime drones have already proven themselves on the battlefield in the Black Sea and forced the Russian Black Sea Fleet to stay in ports.

Recently, one of the drones even managed to shoot down a Russian Su-30 fighter jet. To do this, Ukrainian engineers equipped the marine drone with American AIM-9 missiles.
