The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania is strengthening the training of its military reserve.
The Ministry of Defense of the country announced this.
It is noted that by the end of this year, each of the 26 thousand active reserve servicemen will be assigned to the military unit. The reservists will also be called up either for service or for advanced training.
“By 2025, we plan to have 36 thousand active reserve troops,” the reports say.
In September, it was reported that Lithuania will increase its defense budget, in particular, to purchase armored vehicles, HIMARS systems, radars, and ammunition.
According to Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas, additional funds will be allocated to restore Lithuania’s military potential after a part of its own weapons were transferred to Ukraine.
Previously, Valdemaras Rupšys, Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, claimed that the country cannot transfer weapons to Ukraine, as it needs to replenish its own arsenals.
“We need to understand that we also have NATO commitments. We have clearly stated the units we are contributing to NATO. They must include the indirect fire capability or field artillery, maneuver units with firepower, and air defense to provide support as a host nation,” Rupšys said.
At the same time, Lithuania does not stop supporting Ukraine with equipment and ammunition and conducts repairs of equipment.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense stated that they are currently planning to repair at least 12 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine.
