Lithuania is considering contributing air surveillance radars to the German Air Defense Coalition for Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania reported on this.
Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasčiūnas attended a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council. He asked to help Ukraine defend its cities and critical infrastructure, as well as to provide more ammunition and air defense systems.
“I very much welcome the German initiative for immediate action in the field of air defense, of which Lithuania is a part. We are now reviewing our priorities to provide airborne radar systems as soon as possible. Last week I visited Ukraine and saw that the need for air defense systems and ammunition is very high,” Kasčiūnas said.
Kasčiūnas added that Ukrainians are experiencing a constant shortage of all types of ammunition, and the allies should ensure a continuous supply of ammunition for Ukraine.
“Joint procurement in international markets is a very good opportunity, and Lithuania is participating and will continue to participate in joint procurement initiatives,” he said.
Militarnyi previously reported that Lithuania had allocated about €15 million for the rehabilitation of the Ukrainian military.
These funds will be used directly to reconstruct hospitals and train specialists.
On April 11, it was reported that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense transferred a new batch of military aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This primarily refers to the transfer of counter-drone systems, generators, and folding beds.
The aid has already been delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: it was transferred directly to the military.
On April 6, it was reported that Lithuania continues to provide military aid to Ukraine and recently transferred М577 Command Post Vehicles to Ukraine. Command Post Vehicles are designed to provide radio communications, command, and control for the Ukrainian Ground Forces.
