The Ukrainian crew fired the first shot with the Leopard 2A6 tank during training at the military training ground in the German city of Münster.
The video was released by the Ukrainian diplomat and ambassador of Ukraine to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev.
Training of Ukrainian crews continues at the training ground in Münster: the military is mastering German-made armored vehicles, such as Leopard tanks or Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles.
The diplomat noted that the video was shot on February 20 from aboard the German Fuchs armored personnel carrier.
The Militarnyi reported that on February 13, training of Ukrainian crews of Leopard 2 main battle tanks has commenced in Germany. The training of Ukrainian tank crews is planned to be completed by the end of the first quarter, because that is when the Leopard tanks are to be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Soldier training takes place from Monday to Saturday, that is, six days a week. Training on the Leopard 2 main battle tank takes about six weeks. This applies to both tank crews and maintenance personnel. Soldiers train first on a simulator, and then in field conditions. The final stage of the training program is fire training, which includes firing from a tank.
According to the Bundeswehr, the main aim is to hand over a powerful and well-fortified unit to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. At the end of training, soldiers must master the weapon system so well that they can fight both day and night.
The impressions of Ukrainians after their first experience with using new military equipment and the training process in general were published by the German Ministry of Defense.
“The conditions for training are excellent, Germany and the Bundeswehr support us with everything necessary for good training,” says tank commander Mykola.
He arrived in Germany immediately from the front line, where he fought on Soviet T-64 and T-72 tanks. According to Mykola, he is convinced that Leopard 2 will give him and his comrades a decisive advantage in the defense of the front line.
“We protect the whole of Europe, we are in the first line. We also defend Germany’s freedom with our blood,” he said.
“We collect information about how the Russians fight. Ukrainians are fighting at home and they know the Russians much better than we do, exactly how they fight and how to counter them,” says General Björn Schultz, one of the German servicemen who undertook the training of Ukrainians.
