This year, Latvia will send drones to Ukraine within the Drone Coalition and will provide funding for a Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine.

The Latvian Cabinet of Ministers announced this.

“Latvian society supports Ukraine because we see ourselves in Ukraine. We remember our struggle against the evil of the Soviet empire, and we know very well the evil of modern Russia. Ukraine is waging a war for values: for freedom, for democracy, for the right of the Ukrainian people to preserve their identity. Therefore, support for Ukraine is natural and legitimate in our society. Ukraine can count on Latvia until it wins and achieves a just peace,” Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa stated.

Latvia assists Ukraine both bilaterally and through international organizations. This year, Latvia’s total support for Ukraine will reach €850 million.

In 2024, Latvia’s state assistance for Ukraine will exceed €200 million, and military assistance will amount to about 0.25% of Latvia’s gross domestic product, or about €112 million. The country is committed to maintaining this annual assistance in 2025 and 2026.

The Prime Minister noted that a new military assistance package to Ukraine is planned for April. The plan is to provide material assistance worth €22.2 million, including weapons and ammunition from the Latvian National Armed Forces stockpiles.

This aid package will include mainly ammunition, explosives, weapons, vehicles, and personal and support equipment.

At the same time, work with Latvian entrepreneurs to develop the drone industry in Latvia continues.

Currently, batches of Latvian-made drones are being formed and will be delivered to Ukraine in the near future.

The first drones worth one million euros will soon be shipped to Ukraine.

As part of the Drone Coalition, Latvia plans to allocate at least €10 million for the purchase of drones in 2024.

Latvia will also provide funding for the Czech initiative to purchase 155-millimeter shells for a total of about €10 million.
