Since the beginning of the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ operation in the Kursk region, many Russian soldiers have been captured.

The rapid advance deep into the territory of the aggressor country led to the disorganization of the Russian army units that were directly on the border or in the near rear.

Since the first days of the offensive, Ukrainian troops have been posting videos and photos of Russian POWs on social media.

The Balu HUB Telegram channel and volunteer Serhiy Sternenko reported on the POWs on their social media pages from the very beginning.

Russian prisoners of war are replenishing the exchange fund, which will help Ukraine bring home as many of its prisoners of war as possible who are held in Russia and the temporarily occupied territory, where they are constantly abused.

Only at the Sudzha checkpoint on the border between Ukraine and Russia in the Kursk region on the first day of the Ukrainian army’s offensive, several dozen Russian servicemen surrendered.

On social media, the military reported the number of “about 50” Russian soldiers who raised the white flag.

At the same time, Russian propagandists tried to deny this. However, videos of the Russians surrendering were published on a number of Ukrainian Telegram channels, including DeepState.

As they moved deeper into Russian territory, the Ukrainian military started publishing more and more videos of Russian prisoners of war.

They were both conscripts and experienced soldiers of the aggressor country. Some of them were wounded in combat, and Ukrainian soldiers provided them with first aid when they surrendered. Unlike the Russians, Ukraine adheres to all international rules for the treatment of prisoners of war.

The Ukrainian “I Want to Live” project published a video with fighters of the Akhmat unit, who were also captured in the Kursk region. Raiding groups of the Ukrainian military captured Kadyrov’s men deep in the rear as they tried to escape. However, as we can see in the video, they did not succeed.

As previously reported, active fighting has been going on in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation since August 6. However, the Ukrainian General Staff has not yet provided any comments on this matter. Only on August 12, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated that about 1,000 km² of Russian territory is under the control of Ukrainian troops.
