During the NATO-Ukraine Council at the level of foreign ministers, Ukraine raised the supply of air defense systems to Ukraine as an issue for consideration by the partners.

Ukrinform reported on this.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba shared that following the discussion, Germany, as the leader of the Air Defense Coalition, would look for Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine not only within NATO but also around the world.

“Germany, as the chairman of the Air Defense Coalition, is initiating an immediate analysis of all Patriot batteries and other air defense systems available not only among the allies but also in the world, and what can be done, what combinations can be built to deliver these batteries to Ukraine,” Kuleba said.

US Patriot air defense systems outside of NATO are in service in Israel, Jordan, Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Taiwan.

On March 21, Militarnyi reported that the German Ministry of Defense signed a contract with the American RTX (Raytheon) to purchase additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.

The total value of the signed contract is over $1.2 billion, which includes the supply of launchers, radars, command posts, associated spares, and support.

The order is placed on the latest version of the air defense system in the PAC-3MSE version, which will qualitatively complement the fleet of German PAC-2 systems.

Patriot from Germany

On December 2, 2023, Militarnyi reported that Germany trained a second group of Ukrainian soldiers to operate the Patriot air defense system.

Training in Germany for the second group of Ukrainians on the Patriot system began in October.

The training course was launched after the German government announced a new future large-scale military aid package for Ukraine.

Ukraine received the first Patriot SAM system from Germany in April 2023. The transfer took place immediately after the completion of training for Ukrainian operators, who began mastering the system in early February.

Also, in August, Germany transferred two additional Patriot launchers and missiles for this air defense system to Ukraine.
