US President Joe Biden signed the Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine.
The signing took place at the White House during a live broadcast.
The document will accelerate the transfer of weapons, equipment and other critical supplies to Ukraine by reducing bureaucratic processes.
“This is an Act that provides important assistance to Ukraine, the Ukrainian people in their struggle for democracy against this brutal war. I want to thank congressmen, lawmakers for adopting this bill. This is extremely important assistance to Ukraine. Every day Ukraine pays with its lives for what is happening and it is impossible to believe in the atrocities that are caused by the Russian side. Of course, we support Ukraine and these steps are costly, but it is even more costly to hide from aggression,” said Joe Biden.
He also mentioned that such a program was launched during World War II and stressed that right now Europe needs help from the United States.
The text of the document refers to granting the President of the United States expanded powers to transfer or lease defense facilities to Ukraine to “protect civilians from Russian military invasion” and other purposes.
Basically, this document allows to provide equipment to the recipient countries at the terms of deferred payment to the United States.
Voting in the United States House of Representatives took place on April 29, 2022.
