Recently, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated while speaking in Nara.
Local police arrested 41-year-old man Tetsui Yamagami at the scene, after he shot Shinzo Abe.
Although this incident marks one of the loudest political killings in the modern history of Japan, the weapon used was cheap, crude, and homemade.
Photos from the crime scene show suggest the murder weapon to be DIY-made.
It consisted of two barrels taped to a wooden mount. The weapon had a rough handmade pistol handle.
However, the trigger and the trigger mechanism of the homemade firearm are remarkable.
Behind the pipes used as barrels, different cables are noticeably connected.
At the same time, these cables are connected to the triggers and there are batteries at the bottom of the gun barrel. It suggests that the weapon has an electronic trigger mechanism.
The firearm was likely loaded with DIY-made ammunition and gunpowder.
Presumably, the weapon does not have a magazine or a magazine port. Therefore, the ammunition must have been charged directly into the barrels.
During the search at Yamagami’s house, security forces seized several other homemade weapons. Among them there were firearms with 5, 6 and 9 barrels.
Interestingly, the 9-barrel weapon has a homemade wooden stock for stability, and the 6-barrel gun has a sight attached to the top.
