Japan, together with Croatia, will help in mine clearing in Ukraine.
Nikkei reported about it.
Last week, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi held talks with Croatian Foreign and European Minister, Gordan Grlić Radman, in Tokyo. They discussed possible Japanese assistance in clearing Ukraine’s territory from mines.
The Croatian minister also urged his Japanese counterpart to take part in an international conference held in Zagreb and organized by Croatia and Ukraine.
“As international order is threatened, cooperation between like-minded countries is more important than ever,” Yoshimasa Hayashi said
In addition, Gordan Grlich Radman noted: “The support of Ukraine is a contribution to world peace and stability.”
Japan has an active policy of supporting Ukraine by providing it with important equipment, such as specialized SUVs for the State Emergency Service and radars for detecting drones.
The country also sent the first two SUVs to Ukraine for the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The published document indicates that Japan would transfer light SUVs for combat units, staff SUVs, and tracked transporters.
Recall that this is not the first aid from Japan for Ukraine. In March 2023, Japanese parliament members purchased 20 cars for the Ukrainian military at their own expense.
Also in March, Japan allocated $30 million to supply non-lethal weapons to Ukraine through a NATO trust fund.
In April, Ukrainian rescuers received humanitarian assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
