Japan has donated modern medical equipment to military medical institutions in Ukraine.

The press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on this.

This was made possible through the cooperation of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine.

In particular, the National Military Medical Clinical Center “Main Military Clinical Hospital” received a modern CANON Aplio i700 ultrasound diagnostic system.

The Ministry of Defense noted that a total of five units of state-of-the-art medical equipment were transferred under the project.

Two other military medical facilities of Ukraine received them – the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern Region and the Starokonstiantynivskyi Military Hospital.

“As we all know, technology is changing lives both on the battlefield and in hospitals. On a battlefield, technology allows the Ukrainian army to win. And in a hospital, technology in the hands of doctors saves the lives of Ukrainian soldiers. Thanks to your efforts, our doctors can determine the most optimal ways to provide assistance, taking into account the individual characteristics of the injury,” said Deputy Minister of Defense Nataliia Kalmykova.

For his part, Ambassador of Japan in Ukraine Kuninori Matsuda emphasized that this joint project is an important step in strengthening Ukraine’s healthcare infrastructure, reflecting Japan’s commitment to humanitarian efforts and bilateral cooperation.

“Thanks to the Japanese-made equipment supplied to the institutions, Ukraine will be able to treat approximately 15,500 wounded and injured servicemen a year,” Matsuda said.

The Ministry of Defense added that one video system for neurosurgery, one mobile X-ray/fluoroscopic device, one video endoscopic system, and two ultrasound devices were purchased and transferred as part of the project.

Training was also held for the relevant medical staff and surgeons at the hospitals on how to use the new equipment effectively.

Previously, in January, Japanese Foreign Minister Yōko Kamikawa announced that Japan would contribute $37 million to the NATO fund as additional assistance to Ukraine. The funds will be used to purchase counter-UAV systems.
