The Ministry of Defense of Japan will accept wounded Ukrainian soldiers for treatment in another hospital.

The Ministry of Defense of Japan announced this in a press release.

In addition to the rehabilitation treatment of wounded Ukrainian servicemen at the Central Hospital of the Self-Defense Forces, the Ministry of Defense and the Self-Defense Forces have decided to provide rehabilitation treatment to wounded Ukrainian servicemen at the hospital of the National Military Medical College of the Ministry of Defense of Japan.

The new hospital is scheduled to start receiving patients in mid-March 2025.

Japan has been accepting Ukrainian servicemen for treatment since June 2023. Back then, the first two Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers arrived in Japan to receive treatment at the Japan Self-Defense Forces Hospital in Tokyo.

This was the first time that Japan accepted wounded foreign soldiers for treatment.

Japanese aid

In addition, in early February 2025, the Ministry of Defense of Japan announced plans to donate 30 vehicles from the Japanese Self-Defense Forces as military aid. These are 1/2-ton trucks and high mobility vehicles.

In 2024, Japan already donated 101 vehicles to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. These included Toyota HMV off-road vehicles, Mitsubishi Type 73 Kogata, and PC-065B tracked engineering vehicles.

Also, in 2024, it was announced that bomb squads of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine would receive 22 mechanized demining vehicles from the Japanese government. At the same time, 14 vehicles were to be delivered in 2024, and the remaining 8 in 2025.

At the end of October 2024, the Japanese government allocated 471.9 billion yen ($3.08 billion) as part of a $50 billion loan from the G7 countries to support Ukraine.

The $50 billion loan will be used for military and budgetary needs, as well as for the restoration of the war-damaged country. The loan will be repaid from the proceeds of frozen Russian assets under Western sanctions.

However, it is not known how the credit funds will be allocated and for what needs. And whether the partners will impose restrictions on the types of expenditures.
