The Italian government has allocated a record $1.7 billion in military aid to Ukraine for 2025.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is expected to sign a document that will allow Ukraine to receive $1.7 billion in military aid through 2025.

According to the media, this amount is a record on the part of Italy, as last year the country allocated $1.2 billion, which was intended to be used over 12 months.

Most of these funds come to Ukraine in the form of military equipment and weapons, which are transferred by Italy from its depots and undergo the appropriate repair and modernization process for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Despite this, Italy has not yet raised its defense budget to 2% of the country’s GDP.

The Italian government should also support Ukraine with $40 billion in NATO aid.

Overall, NATO countries were able to agree on a financial package worth €40 billion for military assistance, which the alliance will use to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

In addition, the alliance will assume responsibility for coordinating security assistance to Ukraine, which is currently provided under the leadership of the United States in the Ramstein format.

Military aid from Italy is quite significant, but unlike other countries, the government rarely announces arms transfers to Ukraine.

Militarnyi previously reported that Italy plans to transfer Storm Shadow cruise missiles within a new military aid package to Ukraine.

The ninth batch of military aid from Italy, which Defense Minister Guido Crossetto will present to parliament by the end of the month, will include a batch of Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
