The Italian Ministry of Defense is preparing the fifth package of military aid to Ukraine, which includes vehicles and equipment.
Lorenzo Guerini, the Minister of Defense of Italy, reported on the content of the upcoming fifth interdepartmental decree on the supply of military aid to Ukraine at the meeting of the parliamentary committee on security of the republic.
“During the hearings, the content of the fifth interagency resolution, which will allow the transfer of military vehicles, materials and equipment to the state bodies of Ukraine, was discussed in an exhaustive manner,” Senator Adolfo Urso said.
Giorgio Mule, the deputy head of the Italian Ministry of Defense, informed that the participants of the meeting unanimously supported the new decree.
A similar meeting regarding the fourth package of military aid was held at the end of July.
In March, the Italian parliament approved a government draft law, which provides for the provision of various assistance to Ukraine, including the supply of weapons.
The contents of these aid packages remain classified.
As previously reported, on October 4, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke by phone with Giorgia Meloni, the leader of the Italian political force “Brothers of Italy”, which recently won the parliamentary elections.
In the conversation, Zelensky pointed out the need for further support to Ukraine after the formation of the new Italian government.
On September 30, Andrii Yermak, the head of the Presidential Office held a telephone conversation with Adolfo Urso, Italian senator, the head of the parliamentary committee on security issues of the Italian Republic.
Ukraine expects that the Italian Republic will act as one of the guarantors of the security of the Ukrainian state, Andrii Yermak noted.
“We would be happy if Italy became one of the security guarantors for Ukraine,” he stated.
