The Italian Army (Esercito Italiano) has officially announced plans to transition to a new combat camouflage known as Multi-terrain Camouflage Model 2025.
The announcement was made by the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, General Carmine Masiello, during his Christmas address.
The new camouflage pattern will replace the current Vegetato design, which has been in service for over twenty years.
According to the command, the new pattern features reduced contrast and a muted color palette. This enhances camouflage effectiveness in urban, forest, steppe, and mountainous environments. The camouflage belongs to the multi-color class and has been designed with modern surveillance and observation technologies in mind.
Army leadership emphasizes that the new design provides more effective adaptation to various climatic and geographic conditions. The new pattern will be introduced across combat uniforms, equipment, and protective gear.
“Next year [editor’s note: 2026], if I am not mistaken, we will receive around 70,000 uniform sets. I therefore believe that we will re-equip the entire army fairly quickly, especially since, in my view, we were almost the only ones still using this color,” Carmine Masiello said regarding the implementation timeline.
He added that the official transition is scheduled for Italian Army Day, on November 4.
