In Istanbul, Turkey, police neutralized three terrorists who attacked patrol officers near the Yapı Kredi Plaza office building in the Beşiktaş district. The Israeli Consulate is also located there.
During the shootout, two police officers sustained minor injuries, but their lives are not in danger. A bullet grazed one officer in the leg and the other in the ear, according to the Turkish Ministry of the Interior.
The investigation revealed that the attackers had planned the attack in advance. They rented a car in the city of Izmit and traveled to Istanbul specifically to attack law enforcement officers.
Law enforcement officials have already identified all members of the group. One of them, Yunus E. S., died at the scene, while the other two—brothers Onur and Enes C.—were detained after being wounded.
According to preliminary data, Yunus had ties to religious extremist organizations. Meanwhile, Onur Ç. had previously come to the attention of the police due to drug-related offenses.
Experts recorded active digital correspondence between the group members prior to the attack. Currently, forensic investigators are examining their mobile devices and communication channels to identify accomplices.
Previously, Russia provided Iran with a list of 55 critical energy infrastructure sites in Israel for potential strikes.
