Israel’s Ministry of Defense has signed a $150 million deal to purchase hundreds of HMMWV military vehicles from U.S. manufacturer AM General.
The Ministry announced the agreement on its official Facebook page.
The contract, worth roughly ILS 500 million, was approved by Director General Amir Baram and signed via Israel’s defense mission in the United States.
Deliveries of the first vehicles are expected by the end of the year. The deal also includes spare parts and technical support.
In the Israel Defense Forces, HMMWVs are used for troop transport, casualty evacuation, logistics, communications, maintenance, training, and special operations.
The version being purchased is optimized for troop transport, featuring reduced armor, space for more than ten soldiers, and the capacity to accommodate multiple wounded. It can also be configured to provide fire support.
At the same time, Israel is also procuring JLTV armored vehicles. Under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, the country has ordered 75 JLTVs, with additional units acquired through commercial sales.
Israel’s Ground Forces currently operate a limited number of armored vehicles capable of withstanding mines and small arms fire. The JLTVs are intended to bolster operations in the Gaza Strip.
