During a firing test, a missile ship of the Israeli Navy successfully hit a target ship with a Gabriel 5 anti-ship missile.

The test footage was released by the press service of the country’s Ministry of Defense.

On February 7, the Ministry announced the successful operational test launch of the Gabriel 5 anti-ship missile, which was carried out by a flotilla of Israeli Navy missile ships.

As part of the test, the missile was launched toward a vessel simulating an enemy ship. The detection and launch processes were successfully completed in a simulated real-world combat scenario.

The video shows that the fired subsonic missile hit the vessel above the waterline and detonated. The missile fragments pierced through the ship and continued to move.

The defense ministry said that the purpose of the test was to further improve the missile’s firing capabilities.

Gabriel 5

Gabriel 5 is an advanced Israeli long-range anti-ship missile system developed by Israel Aerospace Industries. The Israeli Navy conducted the first test launch of the missile in September 2022.

Equipped with a powerful penetrating warhead, the missile can neutralize a wide range of maritime threats, such as enemy warships. Subsonic velocity ensures high hit accuracy and a lower thermal signature, reducing the detection risk.

The PKR traditionally uses a liquid-fuel turbojet engine, providing subsonic flight speed at low altitudes. The maximum range is 200 kilometers.

The missile is guided during the flight path by a navigation system with an inertial unit and satellite correction, which can be used to set several control points on the way to the target.

During the terminal part of the flight, search, and targeting are performed by an active radar GNSS with advanced anti-jamming functions. The system provides all-weather operation and has high resolution over a wide radar range.

In May 2023, the Israeli Navy completed a series of multi-level tests of the maritime version of the Iron Dome C-Dome system.
