The territory of the city of Irpin, Bucha district (Kyiv region) has been liberated from the russian troops.
Oleksandr Markushin, the Mayor of Irpin, stated that in his address.
According to him, the Armed Forces, the Territorial Defence, the National Police, and the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine are currently clearing up the city.
“We gain a foothold on our new frontiers and will continue to advance and liberate Bucha, Hostomel, Vorzel,” said Markushin.
However, according to him, residents cannot return home yet since the city will continue being attacked.
The city of Irpin to the North-West of the capital has been an active battleground since the first days of the invasion. However, unlike neighboring Hostomel and Bucha, it was not completely occupied by russian forces. Local authorities reported that the russians were controlling 25 to 30% of the city at different times. The units of the russian airborne forces were operating in the city premises.
In the city, several bridges over the Irpin River were blown up to prevent the enemy from advancing to the capital. In particular, in the village of Romanivka, which had blocked the advance of russians on the Novoirpin highway and across the river Bucha bordering the same-named city.
The russians managed to take up positions in Central Park and have access to the village of Stoyanka, which is located near the Zhytomyr highway.
The residential infrastructure of the city of Irpin has undergone significant destruction. According to the local authorities, up to 60% of buildings have been destroyed. The city lacks electricity and water supply. Most of the residents were evacuated.
