An air defense reservist has been detained in Israel for passing classified military data to Iranian intelligence, specifically regarding the operation of the Iron Dome air defense system.

This was reported by The Times of Israel, citing the indictment.

The suspect in the espionage case is 26-year-old Jerusalem resident Raz Cohen.

He served as a technician in the command and control unit of the Iron Dome missile and air defense system during his mandatory military service from 2019 to 2022.

After being discharged to the reserves, he was regularly called up for combat duty as part of the reserve forces. He participated in repelling air attacks during the war with Iran in June 2025 and during the Hamas invasion in October 2023.

According to the investigation, the recruitment took place via the Telegram messenger in December 2025. An Iranian agent contacted the reservist, introduced himself as a foreign intelligence officer, and offered Cohen money in exchange for cooperation. The communication lasted about a month.

What he revealed about the Iron Dome air defense system

Law enforcement officials claim that Cohen shared technical specifications of the Iron Dome air defense system with the enemy. This information included details on how the launchers operate and the reloading algorithms.

He also disclosed information about the system’s rate of fire and the availability of spare parts at the positions. He also described in detail the duties of the battery personnel and the division of roles among the control center technicians.

Additionally, the agent sent Iranian intelligence 27 photographs and video recordings depicting actual combat operations and the internal structure of the missile defense system’s components.

According to law enforcement officials, Cohen provided the exact coordinates of seven Israeli Air Force bases where he had previously served, as well as the positions of active air defense batteries at the Hatzerim and Palmachim bases.

For his activities, the spy received a reward of approximately $1,000, transferred in cryptocurrency. He was detained during a routine call-up to the IDF in February 2026.

On March 18, the Jerusalem District Court charged Cohen with aiding the enemy during wartime and treason. Under current Israeli law, these crimes carry a sentence of life imprisonment.
