Three oil tankers have been attacked near the coast of Iraq, forcing the country to suspend operations at its oil ports.

Two oil tankers near the port of Basra in southern Iraq were struck by drones, according to Shafaq News.

The Director General of the Iraqi Ports Company stated that 38 crew members from the two foreign oil tankers were rescued. At least one person was killed.

Another tanker was destroyed by an explosive-laden boat. Drones also attacked the Majnoon Oil Field in southern Iraq.

Iran has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that an underwater drone “blew up two oil tankers in the Persian Gulf this evening.”

Operations at oil ports in Iraq have been suspended, said Farhan al‑Fartousi, Director General of the Iraqi General Company for Ports.

Previously, Iran launched a missile strike on an Italian military base in Erbil in northeastern Iraq.
