Iran Lost Significant Part of Its Warship Fleet During Operation Epic Fury

The United States sank a significant portion of the Iranian Navy’s warships during Operation Epic Fury, U.S. President Donald Trump said.

“I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important. We are going after the rest — They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also! In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!” he wrote.

The information has only been partially confirmed. According to satellite images published by observer Intelschizo, three vessels were confirmed sunk at the Iranian Navy’s Konarak base: the light frigate IRIS Jamaran (76) of the Moudge class, and the corvettes IRIS Bayandor (81) and IRIS Naghdi of the Bayandor class.

Three additional vessels, including the auxiliary ship Delvar and two Hendijan-class patrol boats, were likely destroyed, though there is no clear visual confirmation.

It remains unclear which other vessels may have been sunk.

Epic Fury

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) launched Operation Epic Fury on February 28 at the direction of the U.S. president.

U.S. forces, together with partners, began strikes at 01:15 Eastern Time. The stated objective was to degrade Iran’s military command structure, prioritizing targets assessed as posing an immediate threat to U.S. forces and regional allies.

Identified targets included command and control facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Iranian air defense systems, missile and drone launchers, and military airfields.

In the opening phase of the operation, precision-guided munitions were deployed from air, sea and land platforms, indicating a coordinated and pre-planned campaign.
