The decommissioned Indonesian frigate Slamet Riyadi was hit by four anti-ship missiles and free-fall bombs during the SINKEX exercises.
Naval News reported on this.
The vessel was sunk on July 31 in the Java Sea. 7,500 military personnel and at least 17 warships, along with about two dozen fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters, participated in the exercise.
Four different types of anti-ship missiles hit the ship: two French Exocet MM40 Block 3 missiles and Chinese C-802 and C-705 missiles were used.
The two French-made Exocet were fired from an Indonesian Navy’s (TNI AL) SIGMA 10514-class frigates, KRI R.E. Martadinata, and a Bung Tomo-class Multi-Role Light Frigate (MRLF), KRI John Lie.
The Chinese-made C-802 and C-705 missiles were launched from a Van Speijk-class frigate, KRI Yos Sudarso, and a KCR-60M Fast Attack Craft (FAC) KRI Tombak, respectively.
In addition, US M11 aerial bombs were used, dropped from F-16 fighter jets.
After the strikes, the decommissioned frigate split into three parts and sank.
After serving for more than 30 years in TNI AL, KRI Slamet Riyadi was decommissioned in August 2019.
Then the decision was made to sink the ship. This option was chosen for the development of local tourism so that the ship could become a diving site.
To date, KRI Slamet Riyadi is the only Van Speijk-class frigate that Indonesia has decommissioned.
Indonesia recently conducted a similar exercise where a vessel was sunk using an Exocet submarine.
In addition, Militarnyi reported that Indonesia is buying 12 Mirage 2000 from Qatar.
