The Indian Ministry of Defense has signed a contract for the supply of Russian anti-ship missiles.

The Indian Ministry of Defense officially announced the deal.

Judging by the published image, it likely involves Kalibr anti-ship missiles manufactured by the Novator Research and Development Bureau.

The number of missiles purchased, the cost of the purchase, and the terms of the contract are not disclosed.

As of today, the Indian Navy has two ships that carry Novator Research Design Bureau products at once – the Shivalik and Talwar frigates.

It is known that the first frigates of both types are equipped with the Club-N export anti-ship missile system, which consists of a 3S-14 vertical launcher module with a capacity of up to 8 3M54-TE missiles.

As previously reported, the Project 11356R Burevestnik Tushil frigate of the Indian Navy was commissioned in Kaliningrad.

3M54-TE

The 3M54-TE anti-ship missile is designed to engage surface ships of all classes and types, both single and in groups, in conditions of intense electronic and fire countermeasures.

The missile is part of the Kalibr-PLE missile system for submarines (export designation Club-S) and the Kalibr-NKE missile system for surface ships (export designation Club-N).

It is launched from 533 mm submarine torpedo tubes from a depth of 30-40 meters or from universal vertical launchers on surface ships.

The missile is designed according to a normal aerodynamic scheme with a deployable trapezoidal wing. It consists of a turbojet-powered upper stage and a warhead.

The missile moves at subsonic speeds during the cruise phase of the flight, and descends to ultra-low altitudes to avoid enemy air defense systems.

The missile has a length of 6.2 meters, a body diameter of 0.533 meters and a wingspan of 3.1 meters. Its launch weight is 1,570 kilograms, and the warhead is a 400-kilogram high explosive penetrator.

The missile has a range of up to 300 kilometers and a cruising speed of Mach 0.8.

The guidance system includes inertial control on the marshaling section and an active radar homing head on the final stage.
