Ukrainian specialists have created a mine clearance tool that resembles a pencil.

The Ukroboronprom State Concern announced this.

Specialists of one of the enterprises of the Defense industry of Ukraine created a prototype of a metal-burning product called SF-1. Its shape resembles a pencil.

The enterprise’s press service released two photos of this device being tested against 152 mm artillery ammunition and an anti-tank mine.

It is noted that thanks to the exothermic powder mixture that it is filled with, the device effectively burns the metal shells of explosive objects, for example, ammunition.

After that, the explosive substance burns out the inside of the ammunition case. It is emphasized that such a tool can be used for the demining of territories.

Ukroboronprom reported that developers are already designing the technology for remote use of the (MPM) SF-1 with the assistance of unmanned aerial vehicles.

According to them, this will improve the quality of demining, as well as save people’s lives. The developers claim that an important feature of the device is the safety of use.

“The SF-1 developer company is an operator of mine countermeasures in Ukraine and has received a certificate providing the right to carry out demining and other operations with explosive objects on the territory of Ukraine,” the enterprise mentioned in its statement.

As previously reported, as of November 7, according to the State Emergency Service, 271,447 dangerous objects have been neutralized on the territory of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

At the peak of mine pollution in Ukraine, 300,000 square kilometers of dangerous territory were recorded. By November 10, this area was reduced to 170 thousand square kilometers.

As previously reported, the Ukroboronprom State Concern and its enterprises have established the production of 152-mm artillery ammunition. According to Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, new artillery shells for Soviet-era systems have already been tested.
