Special Operations Forces soldiers rescued the Russian invaders in the Kherson region, who were drowning after the Kakhovka HPP dam was blown up.
In this way, five Russian invaders were taken prisoner. They replenished the prisoner exchange fund of Ukraine.
The press service of the SOF Command reported this on June 16.
The military released a video featuring the rescue and capture of the Russian invaders.
After the dam of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station was blown up, the positions of the Russians were flooded, and their command did nothing to evacuate the invaders.
It is noted that after the water flood, dozens of Russian invaders remained cut off from the vast land in flooded positions in the Kherson region.
In particular, the Ukrainian military discovered five enemy soldiers who were up to their necks in water.
“Having received information on the possibility of taking the enemy prisoner, the soldiers of the Special Operations Forces went after the invaders,” the statement reads.
When the Ukrainian military loaded the rescued invaders onto the boats, they fired upon from other Russian positions, although Russian servicemen were also on the boats. Under the cover of machine guns, the Ukrainian military, together with the prisoners of war, returned to the base.
“Despite this, all prisoners of war were brought to the coast alive. Soldiers of the SOF of Ukraine were not injured during the mission,” the command emphasized.
As previously reported, on the night of June 6, the Russian invasion forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam.
As a result of the destruction of the dam, a large mass of water started to be released from the Kakhovka Reservoir, which led to the flooding of the area and settlements downstream.
