Ukraine reached a deal with Space Exploration Technologies Corp. to receive additional Starlink terminals. Over 10,000 devices will be shipped to Ukraine in the coming months.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, shared this in his interview with Bloomberg.
“SpaceX and Musk quickly react to problems and help us. Elon Musk assured us he will continue to support Ukraine. When we had a powerful blackout, I messaged him on that day, and he momentarily reacted and has already delivered some steps. He understands the situation,” Fedorov mentioned.
According to the Minister, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has already received 22,000 Starlink terminals.
Fedorov also shared that there is yet no final contract for receiving the devices. A number of EU countries are ready to share the cost of purchasing them. However, he did not identify those countries.
“To date, all financial issues have been resolved,” the Minister stated, adding that Ukraine will need to find additional funding in the spring.
“Regarding Internet, we have a lot of Starlink, but the key point is that we got the green light for one more batch, which will be used to stabilize the connection in case of critical situations,” Fedorov added.
As previously reported, in November, Ukraine received 1,570 additional Starlink terminals from Poland.
Starlink is a SpaceX project providing broadband Internet access through a network of satellites.
The system works at any point on the planet. This function is actively used by the Ukrainian military.
Terminals can be installed wherever satellites can directly locate them. The system is tied to small terminals that have phased antenna arrays and track satellites.
